Paytm and UPI scam prevention guide

A UPI PIN authorizes outgoing activity; it is not required simply to receive money. A familiar app logo, QR code or caller ID does not prove that a payment request is safe.

Read whether you are paying or receiving

Scammers may describe a collect request as a refund or incoming payment. Read the direction, recipient and amount before entering a UPI PIN.

Do not scan a QR code to receive money

A QR code can prepare an outgoing payment. If someone says scanning and entering a PIN is necessary to receive funds, stop.

Keep UPI PIN and OTP private

Do not share or type a PIN while following instructions from a caller, screen-sharing app or remote-support session. Bank support will not ask for it.

Verify support and merchant identity independently

Open the provider’s official app or website yourself. Search results, sponsored ads and social profiles may show fake customer-care numbers.

Report unauthorized activity quickly

Contact the bank or payment provider through official channels, preserve the transaction reference and follow the provider’s complaint process.
